creative differences: baby dragon update
Posted by stephie24 on August 9, 2009
well…today i had some time to work on the baby green dragon( we really need to come up with a name thoughts anyone?). i focused on adding details…and apparently the dragon and i had a few creative differences when it gets down to it…the back of the dragon turned out redonk awesome (fyi, redonk is a word me and my friends created and yes i know this sentence is not gramatically correct, but thats the beauty of my own blog hehehee, but i digress, anyways redonk means rediculous, but it sounds way cooler!!! dont you think? well i do…hmmm maybe i should make a reference page with all my made up words that i use, i have a few like my own dictionary…that could be cool..what do you think?) anyways the back of the dragon turned out redonk, i put these really cool spots on it and the eyes look awesome, but the front details had some issues…apparently the dragon did not like my creative ideas and rebelled, so i need to rework that a little bit, i am just not satisfied with that. i believe that will be tomorrows project along with posting the latest work on the dragon. after that i will just need to apply the sealant and it will be a finished lil dragon…my first official baby dragon since the site opened…yeah..not too much celebration yet tho…still not done. anways that is the update

basic polymer clay sculpting tips
Posted by stephie24 on August 6, 2009
hi everyone!!!! well today i have some sculpting tips. these apply to anything you would choose to sculpt using polymer clay and are very general. the best part of sculpting with this clay(in my opinion) is that it is so versatile and fun to experiment with, it is virtually filled with endless possibilities!!!!
- keep a wet washcloth or wet wipes (baby wipes) on hand to keep you hands clean while sculpting. any little piece of dirt of pet hair (pug hair seems to always be flying around here) that your hands pick up will stick to your sculpture.
- get a lazy susan, it’s a simple thing but being able to turn your sculpture easily is really helpful.
- mirrors are awesome. no, you don’t have to look at yourself in them, but it is a great way to tell if you have something lopsided by looking at it reversed in a mirror, it really brings out any problems.
- smooth out your polymer clay using isopropyl alcohol, us chemists refer to it as IPA, see this blog is also scientifically relevant, i am one awesome multitasker…giving sculpting tips and teaching chemistry hehehehe j/k. 90% will smooth more aggressively than 70%. i keep both on hand to use depending on what i need.
- get a pasta machine. they are the perfect tool for mixing clay and of course rolling out sheets of clay. mixing clay by hand takes forever and leaves your hands too sore and tired to actually be able to sculpt.

special surprise
Posted by stephie24 on August 5, 2009
so…since i am totally psyched about my newly aquired hits today and just on top of the world regarding my blog… i thought my loyal readers, that is YOU, which i know once you start reading my blog you can’t stop ( my goal is to be just like pringles hehehe) anyways i thought ya’ll deserved a treat…so i have two lil baby dragons in the process of being ‘born’ for lack of a better term. they are about 50% finished. i thought that i would let you follow along through my creative process of these two dragons. currently they have been sculpted and cured. my next steps will be to add detail with paint and other coloring medias and then cure the piece again to create a bond between the paint and clay. following that i will be embellishing the dragons with other odds and ends. i have really started to add other random embelishments to my sculptures and really love the effects, so i am leaning more and more towards mixed media creations. just when i thought i was having all the fun i could, i went and out did myself again. hehehe, nothing wrong with that! so now that you know my plan for these cutie pie dragons i have a favor to ask of you….as you watch these guys transform…perhaps you could think of a name for my product line as well as the two individual dragons. i definetly think that these guys need names, it would be so impersonal if they didnt, and come on…they are tooo cute!!!! and who knows what could happen if there is a really awesome name ideas. keep the comments, thoughts, etc. coming and stay tuned!!!
ok….well one more comment…first i have learned that i am the worlds worst photographer…i may have to enlist a friend to help me take pictures of these things, cuz my pictures kinda stink….oh well i’ll show you the best of them ( i took 40 pictures, i think probably 5 will b ok to show…. i know my limits at least, and i am NOT a photographer…so any of my friends let me know if you specialize in photography cuz i totally need some help to feature the exsquisite sculputre detail of these guys. as i mentioned…these are only sculpted so the only detail right now is due just to the clay…they still have lots of work and morphing to undergo before we obtain the final product…it should be a fun adventure to watch the transformation…i know im going to have fun…hope u do too!!!

well, i got the green baby posted but i am tired and need to go to bed now, so i will post the blue baby tomorrow. also, they eyes will be painted to look like big cute eyes, so they will have whites and irises and all of that…currently all you see is the bead that is inserted as the placeholder. see you tomorrow!!!
i forgot one more thing…i bet you are interested in the size of this lil cute babe. well he is about 2 inches tall and about an inch wide (not including the ear region, ears included then he is 2 inches wide as all) ok, seriously now i have to go to bed!!!

day 2—still under construction
Posted by stephie24 on August 4, 2009
man building a blog is a ton of work, getting everything all together, but its really super fun at the same time and i am loving it (minus the silly pugs that keep pulling out the ethernet cable, i guess they want me to play huh) anyways, today i put up a new page with just some general background info regarding polymer clay. i also included the various other medias i use to color the clay as well as a list of the brands of clay i personally use in my projects including the pros/cons of each brand that i have observed while using them. anyways, i hope to get some pictures up on the weekend of some of my artwork, but it has been a busy week so far, giving little time for crafting. so hopefully by the end of this week i will have the pictures taken and posted…ohhh im sooo excited to see what ya’ll think!!!!
